So a little over a week ago I officially graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in chemistry and a minor in forensic science. That was a long arduous journey that I ended up dropping my math major to a minor then dropping that completely to pursue a minor in forensic science, which showed me what I actually wanted to do with my life. I ended with a GPA of 3.06, which isn't bad at all for a chemistry major, especially after organic and physical chemistry. I was rejected from the one school I actually wanted to go to, George Washington University, and accepted to Pace University in New York City.
However my plans have changed slightly and it's comforting to know what I'm going to be doing where as before I was frantically up in the air about it all. I will be taking a year off from academics and staying in the wonderful city of Haverhill Massachusetts doing odd and ends before applying to the new Masters of Forensic Science program here at Syracuse University.
What are you going to do with a year off, Derrick?? Many people have asked me that and thus I will tell you! I will be subbing at my high school for the next year. It's something I've always wanted to do and perhaps it will show me whether or not I want to teach instead of going into forensics. This then means that I need to apply to schools for education. I will be working at CVS because it's good money and hell I need some! But instead of being a shift supervisor I will be a pharmacy technician where I deal with pills not people. A downgrade in the hierarchy of CVS but an upgrade on what I deal with. I also hope to get my bartending license from a school south of Boston with Andrea Davis and that also will get me money.
But life's not all about money (well who are we kidding it really is) so I will also be doing a few other things. I would like to purchase a new car because well mine is almost at 110,000 miles and after my long journeys in the last four years to Lexington, Orlando, Storrs, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Clarion, Buffalo, and Boston, I deserve a new one. I would also like to get contacts. That was actually the first goal I came up with and will be the first goal I achieve. Striving for the highest as Alex told me. Well I will also be volunteering a lot with my high school band becaue it's going down the shitter right now. I hope to start a basketball pep band, building off of all that I know from Sitrus. Syracuse isn't taking the back burner either. I've been requested for the trumpet section party and of course I'll be back for homecoming and special events second semester.
But what are you going to do upon your return, Derrick? The questions never stop with you people. Mr. Mertz told me to call him once I get accepted and he'll "hook me up." I'm hoping that means that I'll be a senior assistant for the SUMB and not finding me a nice Jewish girl to date. I told him that I might want to play in the SUMB instead and he said "what ever you want, it's yours." We'll be negotiating me taking his job in September. I also will be in Sitrus because, let's face it, there's nothing better than that, except a good basketball team that brings Sitrus places. The only thing I'm not 100% sure of is being active in Kappa when I come back. On one hand I want to be apart of the chapter again but on the other hand I don't want to be Lance. My Alpha Gammas have all told me I should be, but that's a bit biased. Who wouldn't want Mom in the chapter??
Questions answered. Apparently I haven't told enough people this was what I was doing because they keep asking me if I've decided yet. Well I have and this is it!
